Fractional Chief Technology Officer

The skills and experience of a large company CTO but paid for just the time you need.

The Problem: Your Company or Practice is not a “computer company”, yet your computer hardware is a valuable part of your daily operation. Your day-to-day operation requires your “IT infrastructure” - even if it is only a single PC – to work reliably and to safeguard your valuable customer and billing data and possibly irreplaceable work product. In short, you need a “C-level” head of your information technology, but since you don't also need someone to hire, manage and direct a software development team and large network of computers, there is no way to justify a full-time position.

The Solution: Having a “Chief Technology Officer” who is not full-time, but who is a partner in defining your IT goals AND achieving them will allow you to focus on your business while knowing your valuable technology assets are being managed efficiently and securely.

Who I Am: A 20-year veteran of the software development industry I have experience in both understanding the needs of end-users, and in planning for critical corporate data centers. Most important, with positions ranging from IBM to small startup companies, I also understand the importance of weighing cost vs. benefits on a case-by-case basis. As a designer, I often visited customers on-site to understand their specific needs ; aside from making better software, this also showed me that almost every office has unique needs that can be either greatly aided or impaired depending on how computers are put to use.

What Is Offered: Unlike calling a “support company”, I arrive and ask questions to understand your situation and requirements – you do not have to supply a list of what needs to be done. We cover your current setup for security, disaster recovery and how computers are used by you and/or your staff. The goal is not to generate work, but rather to determine whether or not any changes need to be made to reach the level of comfort you want from your computer system.

How To Get Started: An initial consultation to assess your situation and discuss your goals is $350. This can take place at your site or can be done over the phone and will take about 1-2 hours. After that initial meeting, you'll be provided with a written report summarizing what was determined about your status and your needs, plus discussion of how to achieve future goals that were mentioned. It is possible that this initial consultation will answer your concerns and confirm you have all the bases covered or provide a short list of steps to get there.

If you find that you need additional collaboration, we can arrange for phone or in-person time at $180 per hour, or a monthly retainer arrangement that provides guaranteed availability, consultation for “quick items” via email, and reduced rates if/when extra work is required.

For any questions, or to set up an initial consultation, contact me at your convenience.
